This whole thing is wrong.
- The “falsely accused” should be in the “reported” category”, as it is a subset. Of the “reported but not accused”, and “faced trial but not jailed”, at least some of those should also be included in the “falsely accused” group.
This is like the recent problem in my stats class, where 200 adults were surveyed, and 110 drank coffee, 50 drank tea, and 90 drank cola. The key is that there’s overlap in the groups, and this chart doesn’t represent that.
- Claiming that huge number as the number of rapists is purely speculation. If only so many are reported, then what supports the claim that there are something like eight times that number that actually happen?
- The overall design of the chart is bad. Since the category represented uses two units, and all other categories are divisible by two, it visually inflates the numbers, where a more accurate representation would show smaller groups. Not factually wrong, but it plays off people’s perceptions, and show that the purpose of this is emotional influence rather than objective reporting.
Also, though the debunking states the false claims to be from 2-8%, there are a lot of studies showing it to be anywhere from 2-28%
leave it to tumblr to spread false bullshit while actual factual posts get little to no notes
There are so many things I want to say about this but I cannot fathom the words right now.
This disgusts me. Who does this? Who is this manipulative and loathing that they would actually fabricate information about rape? And for what? The condemnation of men? To prove the existence of “rape culture?”
This is fear mongering. Pure and simple manipulation. I would ignore this if I didn’t feel that its intentions were so dangerous.
Take your feminism lightly, everyone.
